On Thursday August 18th we will close and we re-open Monday the 23rd August in our new abode. Look for us at our new home at 6 Service Street.
We are planning a house-warming party in the near future. We hope you will come along and help us warm up our new home.
Clunes Neighbourhood House will be canvassing the local men of Clunes seeking interest in the establishment of a Mens Shed in Clunes.
There are now 71 Men's Shed groups in Victoria with many a part of a local neighbourhood house, community health centre or education organization.
A Men's Shed is a place where men can meet with mates, form new friendships to use their practical skills and knowledge to have fun making and fixing things to benefit others in their local communities.
In Victoria , Men's Sheds have been crucial in helping to reduce social isolation and give men from all backgrounds the opportunity to meet others, engage in activities that interest them.
Men don't talk face-to-face they talk shoulder-to-shoulder. A common feature is men's reluctance to discuss health and other issues of concern to them. Studies show that many members of men's sheds are over 50 years , many may be having significant health problems, have recently left the workforce or are experiencing other changing life circumstances.
They are more likely to engage in conversation about these issues in the atmosphere of a men's shed while engaged with others in a common task.
A feature of Men's Sheds is providing access to professional help and counselling where required.
Most sheds are equipped with tools that can be used both in the shed and for completing projects being undertaken away from the shed.
The shed also provides classes where new skills may be learned.
As well as work on their own homes much of the work done in men's sheds is for local groups, clubs and individuals in the community.
Men's Sheds attract a variety of sponsorship from businesses and organizations to help in obtaining materials, technical information and tuition.
71 Men's Sheds are now operating throughout Victoria and the Victorian Government has announced 2 million in grants to enable more sheds to be established.
Clunes Neighbourhood House will be circulating a mail drop in the area inviting expressions of interest from local men in establishing a Men's Shed facility in Clunes. If sufficient interest is shown an application for funding will be lodged this month. Please give us a call if you are interested in participating or helping to set up our Men's Shed.
We would also appreciate support and sponsorship for this project.
