Illuminated by Fire

You are invited to be a part of Illuminated by Fire an exciting statewide arts project taking place in Creswick.

Working alongside artists Ken Evans and Rebecca Russell the local community will develop and stage a large scale outdoor theatre performance using smoke, shadow theatre, light and fire.

Illuminated by Fire is a project about the places we care about and the story and role of fire within those places. Working across Victoria, the project aims to share stories, increase understanding and create astonishing art. It will explore connections between people and place, using a creative approach to provoke discussion about living sustainably in the most bush-fire prone region of the world.

A two year project initiated by Regional Arts Victoria, Illuminated by Fire will be delivered in 11 locations across regional Victoria with 11 different local presentation outcomes- performances, exhibitions, installations (late 2010) and finally to a site-specific multi-media installation in Melbourne (late 2011).

Ken Evans is a veteran designer, puppeteer and puppet maker for visual theatre. Ken was co-founder and Artistic Director of the internationally acclaimed company, Handspan. Rebecca Russell is a director and devisor of new visual and physical theatre works. Rebecca is also an educator and researcher with ongoing interest in pedagogy.

The Creswick Neighbourhood Centre will be the creative hub for the project and Ken and Rebecca will be running a series of workshops and rehearsals in preparation for the performance.

Workshops/rehearsals will run from mid July until early October with the only performance on Friday 15th October 2010.

The performance will be staged in the grounds of Melbourne University school of forestry in Creswick as an opening event for the Centenary Celebrations of the school.
